Buying our Homestead

For as long as I've known my husband, it has been his dream to have his own homestead. He always wanted a large piece of property, but eventually he came to terms with buying what we could afford; a fixer-upper on a 5 acre parcel. It hasn't always been my dream to homestead, but the idea has begun to grow on me. Some days I'm excited about the prospect of that sort of life, and other days I'm overwhelmed by it.

At this moment, we still do not own the property in question. I suppose you could argue that we won't own it for another 30 years, but that is being a bit nit-picky. We are still waiting to close on the property. The process of purchasing property is frustrating, to say the least. We were supposed to close by the end of February. Now, we may close within the week, or it may be late March. The Bank required a few fixes that their appraiser suggested, so now we wait for the seller to complete the repairs. We are anxious to move out of our condo and get on with our lives. We are stuck in limbo, and it is a an exercise in patience. I have never enjoyed that kind of exercise, but I suppose I need it.
